2009 Fashion Trends from Across the Oceans to Africa

At the beginningsof February 2009, in Luanda city in Angola, Africa a magnificent fashion show event took place. The top local designers of the country showed their latest trends and also new beauty queens on the runways. For more than two hours the designers demonstrated on the catwalks, the best of their collections for the public to air their comments. This being one the West African countries, where the famous kitenge or chitenge garment designs are common, no one would have smelled European flavor on the way.

The local designers displayed items that exposed a combination of European and Africa fabrics because of the devastating effects of global economic crisis. As anyone familiar with these parts of Africa would imagine seeing on the runways, these local Angola fashion designers presented the typical African kitenge attires, silky robes with elegant patterns and variety of colors. Others displayed satin a garments, with variety of colors.
Luanda’s Arena, Atlântida venue, were key African and country’s fashion designers such as, Elisabeth Santos & Avelino, Tekasala & Shunnoz, Nascimento, Ginga Neto, Tina Souvenir and Helena Manuel and the famous Chik Chik Collections. Present also were some beginners in the fashion such as Lumena Borges, among others who also showed the public the latest fashion trends they just started with.
The African side of artistic latest trends in fashion can be wonderful choices for anyone from whatever part of the world to dress in a different way. Women and men of substance, who have progressed in business, careers and family life, wear the famous Kitenge attires. They are more like a black woman/man pride, and they look great even in people of other races. Normally the dresses or skirts are designed as long as they can be, with really innovative trends for the tops and the headscarves. Jewels that are culturally- inspired make the women look so prettier.
